A Story of Passion, Mentoring, and Symphonic Excellence
The Moravian-Silesian Sinfonietta is a respected symphony orchestra that presents extraordinary projects. Since its founding, the ensemble has become an indispensable pillar of cultural life not only in the Moravian-Silesian Region but throughout the entire Czech-Slovak cultural sphere. It combines youth, pedagogical wisdom, interpretive boldness, and a boundless love of music that knows no genre boundaries.
The orchestra’s story began in 2011, when it was founded as an orchestral academy in the picturesque village of Řepiště near Frýdek-Místek. The initial idea was simple yet visionary: to create a platform where emerging musicians could come together and gain invaluable experience in performing major symphonic works. Over the years, this academy has transformed into a full-fledged symphony orchestra. What has remained constant is its fundamental mission—to educate musicians in a professional symphonic environment, involve them in unique artistic projects, and offer them a stage for both artistic and personal growth.
The Moravian-Silesian Sinfonietta operates on a completely unique principle of natural knowledge transfer. Teachers from art primary schools (ZUŠ) and their exceptionally gifted students perform side by side in the ensemble. Young instrumentalists thus do not merely sit in the audience; they become an integral part of the living organism that is a symphony orchestra. Young talents acquire professional habits, learn to perceive the ensemble’s overall sound, follow the conductor’s gestures, and manage stage fright in front of packed concert halls. Experienced teachers find new inspiration, maintain their active playing skills, and see the direct results of their teaching efforts in real time.
Moreover, our efforts to seek out and nurture talent do not end at the region’s borders. We have been developing this initiative over the long term through our prestigious original project, “Talent Blooms in Spring.” This project systematically identifies, supports, and showcases gifted students from elementary arts schools throughout the Czech Republic and Slovakia, enabling the orchestra to play an irreplaceable role in the field of music education.
The Moravian-Silesian Sinfonietta’s repertoire is exceptionally broad. The orchestra devotes itself with absolute precision to interpreting works by world-renowned and domestic masters of classical music, yet with great courage it breaks down barriers and ventures into the world of popular music, crossover, film scores, and modern electronic genres.
Over the course of its fifteen-year history, the orchestra has built an excellent reputation, thanks to which it collaborates with prominent Czech and international conductors, renowned soloists, dozens of opera singers and popular vocalists, and top-tier instrumentalists. Joint projects with numerous choirs and vocalists have also left a significant mark, adding orchestral grandeur and emotion to the concerts.
The orchestra’s journey has been marked by a series of unforgettable projects and awards that attest to its high artistic caliber and flexibility:
- 2013 | Music in the Heart of Ostrava: The orchestra surprised the public by staging an original flash mob at the Forum Nová Karolina shopping center, which was met with an overwhelming response and brought classical music to a wider audience.
- 2014 | On TV: The ensemble’s unique concept and energy caught the attention of Czech Television, which filmed and aired a separate documentary about the Moravian-Silesian Sinfonietta.
- 2017 | Paskov’s Anniversary: The orchestra accepted an invitation to a festive gala concert organized to mark the impressive 750th anniversary of the founding of the town of Paskov.
- 2019 | The Splendor of Gong and a Fusion with Electronic Music: This year was marked by major stages. The orchestra accompanied singer Tereza Mašková at the prestigious Moravian-Silesian Region Athlete of the Year event in the iconic multifunctional Gong auditorium in Dolní Vítkovice. That same year, it pushed its boundaries with a bold and critically acclaimed collaboration with DJ Adams.
- 2023 | Helping Through Music: The ensemble reaffirmed its strong social commitment by joining forces with Adam Uličný. Together, they organized a spectacular benefit concert featuring film and popular music, with all proceeds going to support the Children’s Home in Řepiště.
- 2026 | The Highlight of the 15th Anniversary: May 17 and 18, 2026, proved to be a true artistic triumph. To mark the 15th anniversary of the orchestra’s founding, the Moravian-Silesian Sinfonietta, together with invited guests, performed Gustav Mahler’s monumental and extremely demanding Symphony No. 8 in E-flat major - known as the “Symphony of a Thousand" - at the Trojhalí Karolina industrial venue.
The Moravian-Silesian Sinfonietta is constantly seeking new inspiration, expanding its repertoire, and looking for new artistic challenges. We believe that symphonic music is not a rigid, backward-looking genre, but a living, vibrant art form that has the power to enrich society, connect people across generations, and evoke powerful, profound emotions.
